featrure request for patches & add on syntax

Post by egarnel »

If would be awesome if there were a smooth way to patch/upgrade a modd'd Cacti install and/or addons along with Cacti.

Perhaps a common syntax/structure for addons (please excuse my ignorance if this is the case).. or a means of tracking what files are changed, etc.

Currently, when I upgrade, I backup the db and the Cacti dir, apply the Cacti upgrade and then re-apply the mods (when they are avail for the new version of Cacti.

Given my inherent laziness, I would like to be able to upgrade my modd'd Cacti smoothly (like an unmodded Cacti install). We are currently running Cacti with the plugin arch - monitor/thold/reports.

Since thold and other mods change default cacti files, IMO it should be their job to come out with patches to patch the latest cacti ones.

Once cacti supports plugins, this patching problem will go away with mods.
