Hello,
with rrdtool, there is loss of data with time Could we imagine in the cacti poller an option to save all the data polled in several tables of the database for those who will be interested in several years to find the exact performance of their systems at a specific date ?
Regards

cacti stores all performance data in rrds. They will consolidate data as their principle of operation. See my post at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=9383. To store data without consolidation, you will have to redefine the rras. Existing rrds must be worked over with "rrdtool resize". But they will grow in size! No, they will "explode" if you're heading for years without consolidation...

I'd really love to continue this thread, even for those, who still think about extending existing rrd's. Have just a preliminary bit of code to automate resizing, but it is and will ever be a unix shell script (as far as I'm concerned). Also available is some code to estimate size of rrd's depending on the numbers of data sources, rra's and consolidation functions.
What I still don't know is: how will performance be affected, if resizing to the sky? Does anyone run an installation with bigger rra's? In my testing environment, there is and will never be such a load. And my production, .... Well, I really LOVE a stable system

And here's the link for the first tutorial. It describes generating NEW rrds without "data loss": http://forums.cacti.net/about9605.html
