Newline character in graph title

Post by animator »

Hi everyone, first of all thanks to the developers of this awseome product..
I have searched the forum and got my cacti running with thold, after a lot of cygwin dll messing and font paths etc, it is now up. (will try to figure out why cactid, does not update my graphs later) but first i want to ask a question about the \n character to input into rrdtool.

I have the title of the graph now(for my cisco switches) as: |query_ifname| - |query_ifAlias| (or something like that) to show the name of the interface (e.g. Fa5/15) and the description of the interface (e.g. trunk to 12 port switch room 863 cable nr. 4044886) using the settings menu i was able to change the lenght of the title field and the length of the data query field, but rrdtool does not wrap the text.

I have tried numerous combinations \\n or '\n' or "\n" etc.etc. to achieve this new line character in the graph.
I'm sure i could find it somewhere in the php code or hardcode it in there, but when i change this by the next upgrade it would be gone and am also wondering what the trick is, a chr() or something else.

thanks

Do us a favor, read up on it in Tobi's rrdtool.org web site and then let us know the control character to use, we will make a patch.

Looking briefly at the rrdtool source code I don't think it is possible to split the title by two lines.

Plus, I know that we remove such chars before generating the graph titles.

It is not. After having read this post, I did a review myself and found the same phenom. Tobi supports several other control characters, but no newlines.
