What counts as a logged in user?

Post by adrianmarsh »

On a lot of my W2K Advanced Server servers, I've noticed that the Host MIB - Logged in users reports upwards of what is true...

For example, the cacti server itself... no-one is logged in at the console.. and I'm logged in via Terminal Services... so that should make "1" right? But I get 2-4 reported back to Cacti.

Or have I missed what this OID actually counts ?

Actually - does anyone know a good www page/document that tells you what MIBS the Microsoft SNMP agent supports ? I found http://www.microsoft.com/technet/itsolu ... /snmp.mspx which lists them briefly , but not in any great detail of interpretation

Per logged on users, I have a hunch it also is counting those logged on via a RPC session

Thats where my problem with it is... On some it shows "6", but I only have the default license for Term. Serv., which is 2, which means the maximum that can actually be logged on is 3.

The definition I have for .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.host.hrSystem.hrSystemNumUsers is, "The number of user sessions for which this host is storing state information. A session is a collection of processes requiring a single act of user authentication and possibly subject to collective job control."

Maybe snmp informant will provide what you're after, otherwise it's time for a simple script.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've had some very weird results today. I had to increase the memory on the server as it was quite low. After the restart, I now get the below graph for # of users... weird. Think I'll try ioiioi' script.
