No rrd files created so obviously no graphs

Post by Lmiller »

I am trying to install and run Cacti to monitor router traffic. I am having trouble and cannot get my graphs to display. I am running the following applications

Windows XP Pro (I am on a work domain if that makes a difference)
Apache 2.0.54
PHP 5.0.5.5
Net-SNMP 5.2.1.2-1.win32.exe
Mysql 4.0.20d
Cactid 0.8.6e
Cacti 0.8.6g
IIS 5.1

I finally got cacti to create the webpage, I have logged in, ensured all my paths are correct, however I cannot get it to create any graphs. I looked in my rra directory, and there is a placeholder file but no rrd files. I am sure this is part of my problem, however I have no idea how and where to look to fix this trouble.

I am completely stumped and have no idea where to turn.

What version or rrdtool do you have?

Also, make sure permissions are right on cmd.exe in your system32 directory so the web user can read & execute. [this one got me earlier]

Finally post up a debug output if you could. ;)

(machinename)/IUSR_(machinename) has permissions to read and execute the CMD.exe in the Windows\system32 directory.

I am using rrd tool rrdtool-1.0.48.win32-perl58-distr.zip because I read about the problems with the new version in another post.

I do have the RRDtool 1.0X set in cacti web interface.

Actually [from what I've read] you want to use one of the Cacti-distributed versions.

Can you turn debug mode on and run one run on the poller and post the results from both the log and the std out?

I know where to put the thing in debug, (in the web interface) and I know where it outputs the log file to. But I dont know where the STD out is. Can you explain that to me?

std out is just the output you get at the command prompt when you manually run a "php poller.php" process ... you can pipe it into a text file if you want as well -- "php poller.php > logfile.txt"

Path in Shceduled task?

Post by jd5646 »

I was having this same problem two days ago as I was setting up Cacti. I checked the syntax in my scheduled poller task and found that I had an invalid path included.

I found this in my poller task.... "C:\PHP\php.exe c:\cacti-0.8.6e\poller.php"

I changed this syntax to "C:\PHP\php.exe c:\cacti\poller.php" (Note I corrected the path to the poller in the cacti directory.) and the poller immediately began to generage RRD files.

This problem is probably due to using incompatible versions of the cygwin DLL.
Search for cygwin1.dll using the Windows Start->Find/Search facility
and delete all but the most recent version. The most recent version *should*
reside in x:\cygwin\bin, where 'x' is the drive on which you have
installed the cygwin distribution. Rebooting is also suggested if you
are unable to find another cygwin DLL.

This seems to go on and on forever. Does this mean anything to anyone?
(I dont know what cygwin is and I dont have a cygwin directory.) I did find that there were 2 cygwin1.dll files on my computer, 1 in the cacti directory and 1 in the rrrdtool directory. I did as the instructions said, I deleted the older one. then ran the php poller.php again. Here is the output of cmd prompt run....

Ya download the RRDTOOL binary from Cacti's download page and it has a bunch of CYGWIN dll files that go in the RRDTOOL directory with RRDTOOL.exe :)

http://www.cacti.net/downloads

Should fix it for ya.

Yes, your cygwin1.dll file (distribution) version is not compatible with the one being used by RRDtool. Search your C: drive for cygwin1.dll and then flip a coin on which one to delete.

Ok, I found 2 cygwin1.dll files on my computer, I deleted one, still was unable to create RRD files. So I restored it out of the recycle bin and tried to delete the other. Access denied. It seems it is in use. So I stopped the task scheduler service and tried to delete the file again. Still access denied. So I renamed the file (by putting an underscore in front of it) and the file was re-created. Does this mean anything to anyone?
