Howto create multiple templates that are using the same DS?

Post by seveny »

Hi there,

I would like to create a couple of graph-templates which use the same Data Source (doing that for monitoring a weathersttation WS2300)

I checked out
http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/html/templates.html
but found no hints and my experiments indicate that each graph-template creates its own data source...

Has anybody been successful with this?

Thanks,
Sven

seveny,
as far as I know, you're right. If it is only for a single host, you may go to "Graph Management". There, you may add a single graph definition (using "Add" in the top right corner). By filling the php forms, you may reference an existing data source (just did that a few days ago for testing pupose).
But I do not know how to put this into some kind of "template". For lots of hosts this is boring/impossible.

This is an open bug with the development team. Ian did anticipate allowing multiple graphs to utilize the same data source, but never got to making the UI smart enough to detect and utilize them.

It probably only four or five hour coding fix.
