alrite everyone,
this is my first post, i just installed cacti today and im well impressed with it!
i have cacti up and running on a linux fedora4 box - its getting data for 10 win servers, 2 linux, 4 routers and doin a good job!
however, there is other stuff i want to monitor (icecast, exchange etc).
i am a .net programmer and can get data from an asp.net page without any problems...
MY QUESTION: could cacti get values from a call to an aspx page?
ie: http://192.168.1.8/cacti/get_value.aspx?what=icecast etc etc...
what input type would i use? script query - script server?
im just asking this before i go ahead and create the aspx pages to grab data.
i read up a bit on NSClient etc but i would prefer just to use a aspx page since im more familiar with this!
cheers!
Will this work? Call .net page from linux-Cacti for WMI?

In theory it could definitely work, you would just to run a Perl or PHP script on the server side to actually pull the information. I have done this with a number of different things, its not very difficult at all once you start to do it. You will want to start by creating a custom "Data Input Method". Feel free to post back here is you need more help.djrm.net wrote:alrite everyone,

so i need a perl/php script that would grab the output from the webrequest... do you have such a script? also, would i be able use this script to call different addresses (via a parameter)
ie:
php -q thecallerscript.php address=http://xx.xx.xx.xx/thisasp.aspx?id=xx
perl thecallerscript.pl aaddress=http://xx.xx.xx.xx/thisasp.aspx?id=xx
many thanks cigamit!

Yes, you most definitely can make it configurable. I will see about writing a simple perl/php script to get it done for you sometime tomorrow or the next day.djrm.net wrote:thanks for the reply, its helped me alot already!cigamit wrote: In theory it could definitely work, you would just to run a Perl or PHP script on the server side to actually pull the information.
