Graphs not updating

Post by BuckeyeJohn »

Hi, we're running Cact 0.8.6.f and ver 0.8.6.e of cactid. The product had been up and running fine, however now we're not getting our praphs updated and new graphs aren't created. We are using the cmd.php and for troubleshooting I've disabled all but one host. I've got debug cranked up and snmp is returning valid data. I also see CACTI2RRD log entries and per another post this is logging the update of the rrd files. However, my files in /rra are all old. I copied the text of one of the CACTI2RRD messages and entered it on the command line and captured the output (it returned all garbage). Any suggections much appreciated...

Do you have any "CACTI2RRD" line in the log that are "rrdtool update" or "rrdtool create"? Those are the ones that update/create the rrdtool files. The one that you posted is from viewing a graph on the web interface.

Thanks Tony for that info, however I'm not seeing any "rrdtool update" or any "rrdtool create" entries. I even created a brand new host today and added monitoring and I still have no "rrdtool create" entries.

We had been running an old version of cacti so we just upgraded last night to the latest release 0.8.6f. Now the question is why isn't cacti attempting to update/create rrd records. The million dollar question...

debian 2.4.27-1-386
RRDTool 1.0.49
PHP 4.1.2
MYSQL ver 14.7 distr 4.1.11

Oh and upgrade...

From the web interface, run System Utilties -> Clear Poller Cache. This will rebuild the poller cache and you should be good to go.

ok thanks again Tony... I viewed my poller cache, 53 items. I then cleared the poller cache and viewed again and it is still 53 items which I guess is correct. I'll let cacti run for a bit and see if i see any rrdtool update or creates.

on a silimiar note, I am unable to view my SNMP Cache. Does that sound like a separate issue?

Thanks

cacti has been running now for a hour plus and I don;t see either "rrdtool update' or 'rrdtool create' statements in my cacti log. Does anyone know what fires off the update/create process?

You are running "php poller.php" from cron or scheduler?

We are running poller.php via cron every five minutes and we are still using cmd.php. I can also confirm that its running every five minues from the cacti log file.

nms01:/$ crontab -l

*/5 * * * * php /home/htdocs/cacti-graphs/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1

Can you run the poller manually from the command line? Does it complain about anything?

What is your path to rrdtool and does that match up to you settings->path for rrdtool?

We have two versions of net-snmp installed on the box...

(5.2.1) at /usr/local/bin

and

(5.1.2) at /usr/bin/

Cacti is configured as...

SNMPWalk Path /usr/local/bin/snmpwalk
SNMP Get Path /usr/local/bin/snmpget

hehehe, sorry about that Tony... I was trying to quickly respond before I had to run out. Anyway, we are running 1.0.49 of rrdtool.

But, I think we pinpointed the problem... a problem with the mysql database. We backed up the current db, started with a fresh db and it works now just as it should. So I'll be rummaging through our backups tonight looking for a DB copy before we started having issues. I don't want to have to re-enter 160+ hosts and re-create all those graphs again.

Thanks to all for your help with this.
