Updating rrdtool db with data from database.

Post by kennethmray »

Is there anyway to update the rrdtool db with data from a database? I have metrics in a database that have past date and time stamps and would like to use the data and the date/time stamps.

Does this make sense? If so, is it possible and if so how?

Yes and yes... :)

Take a look at the RRDTool documentation at www.rrdtool.org and the update function.

This looks like exactly what I needed to know...is it possible within cacti to get it to do this? If so, and you can just point me in the right direction I will read what I need to do figure it out.

You can write a script that returns the values from your database that the cacti poller will execute.

Look at the scripts section of the documentation.
