I installed rrdtool 1.2 today and I find I can't use it: it will export static graphs just fine and it displays detail graphs for a given data source (5 min/2 hour/week/year) but no previews.
Is this something anyone else has seen?
This is in SuSE linux 8/9, cacti .8.6f with cactid and rrdtool 1.2.11.
rrdtool 1.2 not creating preview graphs

Enable DEBUG, goto a preview graphs. Then immediately goto the log. You will find an entry "CACTI2RRD". Take that command and paste it into a shell and see what error it returns (please redirect output to a file).
Then paste that error message to this forum. Don't forget to turn off DEBUG when complete.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?

Hmm. works now.
Well, never mind, as Emily Litella would say. It works, though slowly.
Good enough.
Thanks.

I've got exactly the same problem using rrdtool 1.2. Here is the rrdtool command to generate the previews :
/usr/local/rrdtool/bin/rrdtool graph - --imgformat=PNG --start=1124915153 --end=1125001553 --title="Cisco 6513 - CPU Usage" --rigid --base=1000 --height=100 --width=300 --alt-autoscale-max --lower-limit=0 --no-legend COMMENT:"From 2005/08/24 22:25:53 To 2005/08/25 22:25:53\c" COMMENT:" \n" --vertical-label="percent" DEF:a="/var/www/cacti.crihan.fr/rra/cisco_6513_5min_cpu_275.rrd":5min_cpu:AVERAGE AREA:a#FF0000:""
and here is the error output of this command :
ERROR: Garbage ':25:53 To 2005/08/25 22:25:53\c' after command:
COMMENT:From 2005/08/24 22:25:53 To 2005/08/25 22:25:53\c
It looks like rrdtool doesn't like the ':' character into the comment line
