Automatic interface updates

Post by cyanic »

I am new to Cacti, and I have two questions and could not find them trough searches. I hope these are not answered already.

Is there a way to automatically query devices for interface status? I know how to do this manualy by clicking on that pretty green circle.

Is there a way to tell Cacti to graph all active interfaces? This would be the ones with the 1 status.

I am currently using MRTG, and I like everything about Cacti over MRTG, except that I have some scripts that periodically refresh my MRTG config files, and all active interfaces are automatically graphed. We have network changes all the time, and it seems a bit tedious to have to keep up with these manually. We graph over 100 devices many are Cisco 6500 routers.

Thanks,

Cy

I'll take it that these are not options at this time. Perhaps I should pick up a little PHP and write this in. If I do this, I will of course share it with the community.

If the interfaces are constantly changing, you can try changing the Re-Index Method for the SNMP - Interface Statistics data query to verify all fields. This of course, will be a performance hit.

Graph all interfaces automatically as they appear? Nope. One must manually do that. You can graph all current interfaces which are functional at once. Simply click on Create Graphs for this Host, when you're on a device. Then you should see a list of interfaces (among other things) for that device to graph. Check all checkboxes, select the graph types and click create.
