Cactid Input Requirements

What tables and fields does the cactid poller read for it's inputs?

How and where does cactid poller store it's output?

How does this output get inserted into the RRD database?

I want to poll a large number of devices. I tried using RTG because of it's fast poller, but RTG does not support negative guage values at this time.

Since, I have so many hosts, I want to populate the neccessary tables using some scripts, instead of enter each device into the cacti system one at a time through the GUI.

Any help would be appreciated.
