Problems upgradeing from 0.8.1 to 0.8.6f

Post by tomephillips »

Upgraded from 0.8.1 to 0.8.6.f. Poller seems to be working but I cannot see any graphs as I get ACCESS DENIED errors; perform any User Maintenance - cannot create or save a new user or see my account; etc. It seems (?) that mySql database did not upgrade.

All of my rrd files seem to be updating. I can log into cacti as myself and as the admin. All of my hosts are there but the graph trees are not.

Any ideas on how I can verify that the database actually updated?
Would it be a good thing to restore my old 0.8.1 db and try to upgrade?

Thanks.

I have sent an e-mail to our Auth expert for followup.

Export? Do you mean expert?

Let's do 2 things, Please dump and email me you current problem database, so I can see what is causing the problem.

Second, attempt to upgrade again and let me know what happens.

I restored my old db and tried again with no success. Looking at a db dump, it does seem that it is not upgraded completely. I did try to recreate all the user* tables and was able to login; however, I then started to receive variable undefined errors. Kinda seems that the db didn't update correctly.

I will email you my db dump.

Thank you for your help,
Tom

I got your dump, please send me a full dump, I will convert it for you.

Don't know what is happening and I would like to figure it out.

I was able to add and remove users after importing the partial dump you sent me. Are you using 0.8.6f, fully patched?

Yes...it works!

I did get the upgrade to work and stumbled on the solution by accident. I decided to create another 0.8.1 database to start collecting errors, screen shots and the like to answer your email. Ran the upgrade agains the new db and it worked!

I'm stumped.

This is what I did:
- Backup the 0.8.1 db.
- Create a new db with the name of 'test_cacti'
- Restore the 0.8.1 data to the 'test_cacti' db.
- Configure the new version of Cacti to use the 'test_cacti' db.
- Upgrade the "test_cacti" db to 0.8.6f
- Log in and start working. No errors at all.
- Patched up with the latest 11 patches

I'm not the MySQL admin; however, the userid is supposed to have full rights to the db. The only thing I can point my finger to is the old db.

Thank you for taking time to help resolve this problem.
