Can I monitor 1Gbps traffic from server with 100Mb lancard ?

Post by Julia2 »

I'v been using Cacti well so far..
At first, I want to monitor 1Gbps router traffic, but I think it is not possioble.

Although I changed the value of bandwith from 1000000 to 1000000000 in databases filed.

If someone know how to monitor the 1G traffic, Please let me know the way.

Secondly, I can monitor unix servers which are Solaris from RedHat Linux server. However, I cannot monitor another Linux server. I don't know why. I think Linux is a little bit different from Unix.

Is SNMP different or not? I don't know. I've installed snmp to several Linux server but, I can't get the devices on cacti.

Please if someone already know about this , reply to me.
Thanks a lot experts~

You can monitor Gig, just use the 64 bit counters. The values are derived from the snmp results of the device(s) that get queried by the Cacti server. regardless of the nic speed of the Cacti server.

As far as snmp on linux goes, you should have no problem as long as:
1) snmp is installed, configured and running
2) there is not a firewall and/or acls blocking snmp between the devices and the Cacti server
3) network issues

These factors are same for linux, windows, etc...
