I'm trying to get cacti to run on a Solaris 8 (sparc) machine. When I type in the address bar of my netscape browser:
http://localhost/cacti
I get:
"The requested URL /cacti was not found on this server."
I'm also getting this error:
"Warning: mysql_connect()[function.mysql-connect]: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading mysql client in /usr/local/cacti-0.8.6e/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 339"
How do I resolve this?

Try "http://localhost/cacti/".
This is a configuration problem with your apache configuration and the ALIAS line for cacti. Or a permissions error... Don't know how you set it up.
As for the mySQL error, that is typicall do to 4.x verision of mysql not supporting old password format. Search the mysql and php sites for more information on those issues.

My apache configuration is pretty much "out of the box." I added lines that were suggested in the cacti installation manual. But I didn't do anything with permissions?
Looking at the error log for apache, when I request the http://localhost/cacti, the following is placed in the error log:
[Client localhost] File does not exist: /usr/local/cacti-0.8.6e/cacti
I set the DocumentRoot to /usr/local/cacti-0.8.6e (When I tried setting the ServerRoot to /usr/local/cacti-0.8.6e, I got all sorts of errors and apache wouldn't start). So, ServerRoot was set back to its default: /usr/local/apache2.
