Default bit/s not byte/s and some other questions

Post by CoyoteTM »

How can I set the default value to bit/s in cacti ? I need to add too many graphs and it is a lot of work to apply to every graphs every item the CEF turn bytes into bits. How can I set u p cacti, if I add a new graph, the default value have to be bit/s ?

How can I set up a graph to add the values togeter when graphing them, but to show them in different colors. Like the total bandwidth, and from the total the www is 20%, ftp 25% mail 30% .../nice colorful thing :) /

SNMP related : Is there any solution to get from a linux box the bandwidth used with snmp ? /like form the cisco routers/ Or any other solution how to graph bits/s on linux box

Wich is the best method to fech data from other linux boxes ? /The www, sql, proc... perl scripts need to access the other server log files/ Use ssh with key beased authentication for this ? /also important again, the bits/s on the other linux box ethernet card/

There's currently no way to change the default but there is a nifty script to change a graph from bits to bytes here:

http://www.raxnet.net/board/viewtopic.p ... bits+bytes

Use the "stack" graph type. If you want to gprint the total use a CDEF to add all of them together. Check out the RRDtool tutuorials for more info.

If you start the net-snmp snmp daemon, the standard MIBII stuff should be immediately available. You'll be able then to monitor traffic on its interfaces the same as you do on routers/switches. For more info check the net-snmp site (www.net-snmp.org).

As for monitoring other stats, there are a lot of ways to do this. One option is to use nagios/netsaint_statd to check, there's a tar.gz file including all the scipts, and a README here:
