Adding first Devices: SNMP Error

Post by pilot006 »

Starting at my new job I decided to implement a way for us to finally understand our network health without waiting for something to break. Just got done with my install of Cacti (latest version)... which I've seen run before and it looks great. I decided to add a test device... one of our Cisco core routers. I add the device with the proper SNMP string (looks like: SNMP***4ENT). When I save the configuration I just get an error that says SNMP error. Hmm... tried using Cacti on one of our Motorola Frame Relay FRADs... once again I get an SNMP error. Same community string and the cacti server is allowed as an SNMP client. So it wasn't just the Cisco. I checked the cacti.log and all I see is:

I took a look at the access logs to the Cisco router and I never even see Cacti try to pull an SNMP stat from this router. Tried browsing the forums but can't seem to find where I should try starting to look. Any ideas.. let me know.

Confirm that you have NET-SNMP installed and/or the php module for snmp.

To check php module, use "php -m".
