No Graphs with Cacti

Post by needsomehelp »

I'm a newbie, and a novice when it comes to Cacti and any Linux software. I currently installed the new Cacti onto my Whitebox and I was able to get it up and running, but when I try to view the graphs and ran the graphing bug, this is the error that I received:

ERROR: opening '/var/www/html/cacti/rra/csweven_traffic_in_71.rrd': No such file or directory

any ideas??? I would greatly appreciate the help!! Thanks!!!

Ok, let's start with the basics...

OS version and distrubtion?
Cacti Version?
Php Version?

Are you running the poller.php from cron every 5 minutes? If so, have you examined the cacti.log file in the log directory of you cacti installation?

I apologize if I "hit a nerve" but that was my impression of some of the people who post on this message board. From most of what I've read on this message board, people have asked for "compensation" or a "fee", and to me, I just didn't get it since this is free software...but that's just me. I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm just a bit frustrated and my boss is hounding me to get this finished...finish a freakin' application in which I have no experience with what-so-ever!

Ok...sorry again if I offended anyone...but now that I have ranted and raved...Here is the information you asked about...

- Whitebox 3.0
- Caci 0.8.6d
- php-4.3.2-8

This is a copy of my crontab:
*/5 * * * * cactiuser php /cacti-0.8.6d/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1

Here is copy of my log file:

Well, those mysql errors, you need to figure out why you are getting those errors.

First, check that you include/config.php file has the correct settings.

Second, do you have mysq server running? If you surf to cacti web interface are you able to login?

Your errors look familiar. You need to let mysql know about php. Do you have the mysql-php package installed ?

If not you need it...

apt-get install mysql-php

or apt-get mysql-php

rpm -i mysql-php.*

cd mysql-php*

./configure

make

make install

If there PHP module for mysql was not there, it would be a completely different error message.

Also, turn you Poller Logging Level up to Debug and then post one pass of the poller from your log.

Yes, mysqld is on, and I am able to login through the web interface. It's picking up data, there's just no graph to display it...arrggg...and I'm not sure how to turn on the poller logging up to debug. Sorry! Forgive me, when I say novice, I mean, a pee-brain when it comes to Linux applications :-\

In the web interface, Settings->General->Poller Logging Level, set it to Debug. Then let the poller run and post just one run of the poller from your log/cacti.log in your cacti directory.

You need to edit my.conf and increase the number of concurrent client connections. Your error messages seemed to be associated with running out of connections. Please also give that a try. For larger sites, we have customers using as many as 500 connections in thier my.conf file.
