graphing catalyst 6509 switch w/ descriptions

Post by brianw »

The problem I see w/ graphing all ports on a switch and their associated port description is that the catalyst devices use a different OID to store their description (more specifically .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.4.1.1.4.[module].[port]). In order to get the correct information into cacti, a new snmp xml is necessary in order to get the correct ifName/ifAlias information. I tried setting the above OID to be ifAlias for a copied version of interfaces.xml I called cat_interfaces.xml but that didn't do the trick.

Does anyone have any info on how to get Catalyst switch ports w/ Descriptions to show up correctly in Cacti?

Thanks,
Brian

What did you use to generate the XML template?

I used the default interfaces.xml file and simply changed the OID for ifAlias. I don't know another way to create them... is there something else I should be doing?

Thanks,
