One of the things I am going to do for the next version of cacti is include builtin support for php's snmp's functions. I will still have the option of using the older method, but will offer a faster alternative for those who need it.

I also forced the data source names when using 'Make Graph' to 5 charcters (+4 for in/out). For now just keep the names short (under 19 characters) when using 'Make Graph' and your graphs should render fine.

Like a few said before a c program is probably the fastest solution to the data gathering issue but will probably have to wait a bit until that gets finished.

FYI: I will be at a LAN Party until Sunday, so I'll get around to your e-mails then.

Further update: cacti can now auto-detect whether SNMP support has been compiled into PHP. If it has been then cacti will call the PHP function 'snmpget', if it has not cacti will call the snmpget binary directly. I have eliminated calling 'cmd_snmp_interface.php' entirely since it unessesarily slowed things down.
