MRTG RRD Graphs

Post by twooly »

I have cacti installed on a Win2k Server and it is running ok. Now here is my problem. I have MRTG running every 5 mins creating rrd files now I would like to use cacti to graph the data. I tried adding a data source pointing to that rrd file but nothing happens. Graphs aren't showing up meaing blank picture. Can some help me out on th right way is to import all these rrd files into cacti.

Thanks

You should be able to configure cacti to see the datasources/rras in those RRDs by manually adding the ds's, the RRA's (if they're different from cacti's default), the graphs, and the graph_items.

After you've done this, in the "edit graph_items" page, turn on the output preview. What does this say?

Not sure if it would work on windows, but if you have perl loaded, you can use cacti_inject to automatically import your RRDs into cacti.

for more info on cacti_inject check dis out

Let me know if it works on windows or not. If not (and if you're interested), let me know the error, and I'll try to fix it so its more platform independent.

I added the rrd file but here is where I am running into trouble when adding the Internal Data Source Name how can I tell exactly what this is because when I turn on the preview this is what I get.

ERROR: No DS called 'Test_Free_Commit' in 'd:/mrtg/test/logs/win2ksfs121_free_commit.rrd'

No more error but no graphs

Post by Steve »

Thanks for the reply.

After removing those default templates and those errors went away. I bet those perl scripts only work Unix and Apache.

Now, it is running without those errors, I still can not see those graphs.
Here is my configuration:

Win2k w/ sp3
Active Perl 5.6
php-4.2.3
mysql-max-3.23.53
Cacti-0.6.8.a
Rrdtool

I am running mrtg and 14all.cgi on this machine without any problems.
I wanted to utilize the Mysql to store those data and Cacti for user management.

Any ideas

Thanks,

Steve
