Cactid 0.8.6d updating IOS, not CatOS

Post by Mikkel »

I'm experiencing a very strange problem. Until now I've been running Cacti using the cmd.php poller and everything runs fine. rra's are updating, graphs are updating, no problems whatsoever. Because the runtime was getting close to 300 seconds, I decided to switch to cactid. Now the weird part is that Cisco routers and switches running IOS update fine, rra's as well as graphs. CatOS devices however, don't. Neither the rra's or the graphs are being updated.

Any idea why this is?

Windows XP SP2
Cacti 0.8.6d
Cactid 0.8.6d
PHP 4.3.11 (cgi-fcgi)
MySQL 4.1.11
RRDTool 1.2.0
net-snmp-5.2.1

The above devices are all IOS devices, there are no CatOS devices in the debug output. :( I'm at a loss here.

When you view the device in the web interface, what are the status of the CatOS devices?

When I'm using cmd.php, they're up. But when I'm using cactid, they're reported as being down. But when I open the device I can do a verbose query and it updates without problems.

What happens when you run cactid from the command line in DEBUG mode. Post output.

Well, the entire debug output is approx. 12600 lines of text so I guess I'll give you a small piece of it if that's ok.

The strange part is that there are only Cisco IOS devices in the entire debug output. I can't find any CatOS devices in it.

Could it have something to do with the CatOS devices being shown as "down" in the devices list?

I think I figured it out somehow.

The problem with the CatOS devices not updating lies in the fact that the status of these devices were shown as "down" while they were actually up. This has something to do with the ICMP ping not being received/transmitted properly. I changed the "Downed Host Detection" from "Ping and SNMP - Most Recommended" to "SNMP - Most Reliable" and now the CatOS devices are showing as "Up".

Everything seems to be working now, thanks for your help anyway. And keep up the good work, Cacti rocks!

Mikkel,

This "system" setting will be moved to a "host" setting in the next release of Cacti.
