Basic question

Post by manu »

Hello,

I'm actually trying Nagios, but it can't manager multi-user : each user can see its own hosts (and not hosts of another users)...
So Cacti can do it ? (I have read that it's ok for the Graph).

Many Thanks.

Accually you can do that in Nagios. You just have to look into the cgi.cfg file and you can setup contact groups for the hosts. :)

Concerning Cacti, you can define users and assign permissions to them to see what graphs you them to see. You can restrict by Tree, Host, or Graph.

Contact groups, for notification ... but not for login with the Web interface and see their hosts ??

For Cacti, permission by graphs and not by hosts or hosts groups ?

thanks.

I didn't really play with it in Nagios, but I was under the assumption that you can restrict what people can see based on the contact groups they are members of.

There are no "host groups" in Cacti. And yes you can do permissions by host, I did say that. You can allow or deny, the ability to see Graph Trees (Collection of graphs and/or hosts), Host, Graphs and Graph Templates.

Utimately, I suggest you install it and play with it. That will give you a true idea of the capabilities.
