Cacti Hardware Compatibility List ???

Post by pdb »

Hi,

I've been using Cacti for a couple of weeks now, and I basically love it. Documentation is reasonably good. Everything looks professionally done.

Thought I'm really missing one thing. A comprehensive HCL. With this I don't mean what hardware Cacti runs on, but what hardware allows Cacti to collect Data off it.

For basically a simple database with the following information (example):
Vendor: Cisco Systems, Inc.
Device: Catalyst WS-C5000
OS Version: Cisco Catalyst Operating System Software, Version 4.5(12)
Cacti Version: 0.8.6d
NET-SNMP Version: 5.1
Works out of the Box: Yes
Notes: None
Templates: None

Basically the notes field can be used for explaining when Works out of the box is no. And Templates can be used for attachments when the device doesn't work out of the box, but custom templates do exist for the device.

Anyway Cacti seems to have a reasonably big community, probably with access to quite a diverse range of equipment. So filling the HCL shouldn't be too much trouble.

The HCL could be as simple as a forum sticky thread with a content convention as demonstrated above.

Please let me know what you think of this...
Regards,

That's a thought. Unfortunately the team is you and others. The developers perform changes to Cacti a volunteer work and have other things going.

I believe that if the Cacti following continues to grow, we might have this one day. The next major release of Cacti will set the groundwork for changes in the web site and many other changes.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
