lack of data every now and then

Post by tux73 »

I log the output of poller.php executed in /etc/crontab with a ">" in a file "crontab-poller.log"
Every now and then (up to 20 times a day), I get a lack of data and all graphs do not show anything for this special period (5 minutes). This happens the same time to every graph (memory, eth0 etc.) but at different times a day or the other day.

I can read in my log:
date time POLLER: Poller (0) Maximum runtime of 296 seconds exceeded. Exiting.

What happened, what did I do wrong? See attached graph

*edit*
I am using debian testing and the original debian .debs.

*edit2*
When there is no data graphed, the log reads like this:
04/28/2005 12:40:48 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time: 1.0595 s, Method: cmd.php, Processes: 1, Threads: N/A, Hosts: 2, Hosts/Process: 2
And the "Maximum runtime of 296 seconds exceeded" lacks.

I have a very similiar situation. Although my logs look normal. I'll post if needed, but won't be near them till Monday. I have attached a graph.

I'm running cacti-0.8.6d using cactid with poller.php on Redhat9.

Also, I have set snmp timeout to 5000 and retries to 10. I did have it set to 2000 and 3 retries with same results. Using normal snmp v1 and v2 mix.

Edit: I have the default localhost graphs installed with cacti. I attached that below. It doesn't have the "breaking" problem. Hope my issue is still relevant to original posters problem. If not tell me to post a diff thread.

try and ping your remote hosts with an extended ping. In windows it would be "ping -t -l 1400 hostname". If you consistently loose data, I would suspect either a bad nic, bad cabling, or an ISP problem. See www.pingplotter.com for a great Windows diagnostic tool.

Version 0.8.6c
Now, I always see something like:
05/01/2005 01:00:03 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time: 1.1404 s, Method: cmd.php, Processes: 1, Threads: N/A, Hosts: 2, Hosts/Process: 2

and get no data into the graph. :(
(cacti runs on a localhost, and only this host)
