Riverstone

Hello All
I am new to cacti. I was able to set up a cisco router and a summit layer3 switch kind of easily with cacti. BUT I have a riverstone 3000, layer 3 switch that we want to monitor.
I have this set up in the riverstone:
59 : snmp set community chance privilege read-write
60 : snmp set chassis-id RS3000-Expedient
61 : snmp set mib name riverstone-config-mib status enable

The software version of the riverstone is:

In cacti, i went to Create Devices--> Add and then I entered the info of the riverstone, the Ip as the host name and the read string " chance ", I used the default template snmp "generic snmp enabled host".
When I save that, I got this "SNMP error " and the status for the devices is "unknown".
What can that be ?

hey guys
I have read the tutorial on cacti and some tutorials about snmp on the web and so far I have not been able to get anything from the riverstones. is there any other guy on how to approach any snmp-enabled device, how to interpret the results from snmpwalk etc etc?

I graph standard stuff for RS-3000's: errors/discards, throughput, CPU.

What are you having issues with? can you do a "snmpwalk -v 2c -c <communitystring> 1.2.3.4" on your linux machine, and use the IP of the network interface FACING you.

It's important to use the IP address of the interface that you hit first on your RS-3000. It won't work if you use another IP interface.

Now it works. I am using the interface that I face first. So far I am graphing the bits in/out and total bandwidth on the interfaces but I would like to graph also the cpu process, errors etc. We have two riverstone 3000, one for each of our ISPs, so they are critical for us, that's why the more info we can gathered the better.
How can I add the other stuff?

I just graph the errors/discards for each of my IP interfaces. As far as CPU utilization/usage, here is the OID for the RS-3000:

1.3.6.1.4.1.52.2501.1.270.2.1.1.2.1

After you have created the device, click on Create Graphs at the top of the page. It will show your all the interfaces it has found on your router, and you can select any of them. Select the hardware ports you want to monitor for errors/discards, then at the bottom of the page, use the Select Graph Type pull-down menu to select In/Out Errors/Discarded Packets. Then click on the button at the bottom that says Create.

I am very sorry for asking such a dumb question,
I Had not seen that type of graphics I always only saw the bits/bytes and the like.
But how can I graph the CPU usage of the riverstone using the OID that you gave me?

Hi,

Try importing these graph and data templates. The data templates are for 60 second and five minute utilization and include the appropriate OID's, and the graph template graphs both.
