Unix Load Average--Measurement as a Function of localhost?

Post by Jason-Azze »

Running Cacti 0.8.6c on Debian Sarge on a PIII 500, 512 MB RAM.

I'm monitoring Unix Load Average on several systems using the stock graph template and data query, etc. I have not modified loadavg_multi.pl in any way.

I have noticed that as measured load increases on my Cacti box (localhost), there is a corresponding increase in measured load on all of my monitored systems.

I expected the load increase on my Cacti box, as I've been adding more devices. I assume the load measurements for my remote hosts are inaccurate.

I'm looking for advice on how to properly use this measurement tool. I assume I've goofed somewhere.

Thanks,

Unix load average is localhost only and will reflect localhost on any hosts you apply it to.

You have to use NET/UCD SNMP template on remote hosts.

Thanks so much. That's exactly what I was looking for. Problem solved. I'm not sure how I missed that one.
