SMTP Fails - need help

Post by tfrench01 »

We copied the exact settings from our enterprise networked copier, this is a new install.
We are able ping the smtp server 192.168.1.252 from the DOS desktop.
We are not able to ping the smtp server from the cacti url.
I even turned off Defender, with no good pings.

From the Cacti LOG;
2025-01-07 15:22:30 - CMDPHP SMTP error: Authentication failed: 250-MSGEAST2.fmaitland.local Hello [192.168.1.127] 250-SIZE 37748736 250-PIPELINING 250-DSN 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-STARTTLS 250-X-ANONYMOUSTLS 250-AUTH NTLM 250-X-EXPS GSSAPI NTLM 250-8BITMIME 250-BINARYMIME 250-CHUNKING 250 XRDST

Authentication failed - it seems that you have incorrect auth settings (username,password, security, ...)
Is it allowed on your mailserver to send email from cacti's IP address?

macan,

I noticed that as well, but when we put correct password for the account, it still fails ping.
And of course the message does not get send.
Any other thoughts?

Check to see if your web server is in safe mode where web pages are unable to open tcp connections. With IIS, and Microsoft in general, they are constantly breaking things from a security perspective. It could also be PHP doing it too. You can use sys internals to track tcp port activity to confirm.
