new device / graph template tutorial?

Post by dallenk »

Maybe my search skills are terrible, but I am having a really hard time trying to find a guide on creating a new device template with graphs. I can get simple single OID's to graph for the device after using a mib browser but it looks like a device can only have one Generic OID graphs on it?

I tried exporting a template and modifying it, but I don't understand how the hashes work, if I need to randomize them or keep them or change them somehow..

in a nutshell, i have a basic DC power distribution panel with AC input voltage, temp, and DC current on outputs.

i don't have a problem with being told to RTFM, but if you can show me where to start that would be great. Using cacti for 10+ years and creating my own device templates has always outsmarted me.

try search forums, maybe the template already exist
Use our documentation, section howto.

I don't recommend copy existing templates, there are few issues. Copy templates will be part of cacti 1.3. Better is create template from scratch.

thanks, I did read that a few times, but man.. I am so confused when it comes to "Get snmp data indexed" I can create templates from non indexed data using oid's

but that seems to be really slow way of doing it. i'll keep trying.

you can create more than one SNMP - generic OID template graphs for one device. I'm using it very often. Maybe any older cacti version had any issue and you colud create only one graph per device.
