Lack of details in graphs after weeks and months

Post by toto876543212000 »

Hi,

After a few weeks and months, I See in the graph history that I get less and less details on the graphs for the old data.

The recent data give some precise praphs per 5 minutes data, then if I choose old data, the graph shows only 1 value per day, and everything seems to be an average value per day.

So I get only one-day-value bars for a one month graph and not detailed graphs, which is not really usefull to check old events on my network.

It seems it's the way cacti works by default.

Is there a way to tell cacti/rrd to keep all the detailed data, even though the RRD database becomes big ?

Can only anybody tell me if we're forced to lose precision after a certain time in Cacti or is there a solution.
What about you ?

There are many posts concerning changing the resolution of the rrds. Search the forums.

Can't find it (0.6.b)
You mean 0.8.6b?

Basically, and I can't go into detail at this time, but you need to modify the RRA settings, located Console->Data Sources->RRA's. After you modify the RRA's you still have to modify your existing RRD's, cacti will not modify existing, but it will apply the changes for new files.

There are some posts on modifying RRA settings and storing 5 minute resolution for longer periods. There have been some very good extended discussions on this issue.
