how to get email alert from cacti management->device whenever unknown / down status

hello, I just cannot find out how to get email alerts
whenever the device in Cacti Management->device in unknown / down status

I now already configured the notification list and checked box to associate devices.
but still no email alert when i test a device is unknown/down status,

do i still need to configure template , threshold or other things to make it work?
(I have already double checked cacti->configuration->smtp relevant settings)
(also double checked junk mail folders in web browser interface)

double checked, DNS also set. But still no email alerts.

Any chance to make the page management->Device list page refresh ?
i am using chrome and it simply did not refresh at all, i can only manual refresh it

Configuration -> settings -> mail/reporting/dns tab - here is "Send a Test Email" button. Did you try it? Did you receive test email?

yes, successfully received the test email,

but still no email from whenever Management->device (down / unknown status)

method A:
1) management -> notification list -> create notification list
2) asign device to notification - > management -> devices -> edit any device -> Device Up/Down Notification Settings -> select "list below" and select list from point 1

method B:
1) management -> notification list -> create notification list
2) on this notification list -> devices tab -> choose devices

it is strange that, i added several more devices to test,
and they are all not showing unknown/down even I point the device to ping a false non-existing port,
they all showing Recovering status

but previous days' test,
it can show unknown/down before if I point the device to ping a false non-existing port, any options I can check there? (Ping also returning connection failure in red lines for the testing device)
