Hi all,
Having a weird thing here, running RedHat Enterprise 8.0 and I can ping a device from the servers CLI see below.
[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 cacti]$ ping wwmnwygm01c94
PING wwmnwygm01c94 (x.x.x.x) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from wwmnwygm01c94 (x.x.x.x): icmp_seq=1 ttl=244 time=4.65 ms
64 bytes from wwmnwygm01c94 (x.x.x.x): icmp_seq=2 ttl=244 time=4.83 ms
!
However in Cacti its stating that ICMP ping timed out.
Ping Results
ICMP ping Timed out.
I have tried to ping using the Cacti ping scripts that I think it used and both work.
[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$ ./ping.pl wwmnwygm01c94
4.72[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$
[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$
[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$
[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$ ./ss_fping.php wwmnwygm01c94
min:4.4010 avg:4.5100 max:4.6180 dev:0.0787 loss:0.0000[netmon@ncdlnetmonp001 scripts]$
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

Re: Can Ping host from CLI but not from Cacti
Typically the issue is that the web server user doesn't have permission to execute the ping script. So I would start there.
Re: Can Ping host from CLI but not from Cacti
Can you confirm which command it runs to to the test is it ping.pl or ss_fping.pl for the ping test?
Either way when running it as the apache user it works.

Check for SELinux rules blocking the execution of /bin/ping.
