Install instructions for Ubuntu/Debian, what is php7.0-mc

Post by Levafut »

Hi

The install instructions for Ubuntu and Debian have a package called php7.0-mc. I am trying to do a fresh install, PHP is v8.1, I get package not found when trying to install this as either:

php7,0-mc
php-mc
php8.1-mc

Unfortunately, mc isn't exactly descriptive so I do not know what the package is supposed to be, has the line become truncated somehow? I have tried a copy and paste, the resulting line still had php7.0-mc as the last package.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of what package it is meant to be, that would be grand.

Kind regards,

install at least php 7.4 or 8.1.
I think that you don't need mc module

Can the installation instructions be written/updated for Ubuntu 22.04 with MariaDB and php 8.1?

Also, can the setting up of systemd be rewritten to reflect the fact that Ubuntu has a different file structure to Centos?

I am not particularly knowledgeable regarding Linux and the don't easily translate between the different distributions, but I don't wish to run Cacti on Windows servers either, I am running on VMs and would like to keep them nice and light on resources. Ubuntu is the distribution of choice in our organisation.

Thanks in advance for consideration

Cacti installs from source pretty easy. Check out the install docs on docs.cacti.net. There are install guides there. Also, there is a Cacti Group YouTube page as well as hundreds of other Cacti install videos there.

Unfortunately, that is why I have asked the question.

The install instructions on docs.cacti.net are out of date regarding the release of php that installs with Ubuntu 22.04, the instructions reference a php module of 7.0 that either doesn't exist in 8.1 or is a different name, unfortunately, it's not a particularly descriptive name and I can't work out if there is an alternative I should be using.

Later in the instructions, the setting up of systemd references a file structure that doesn't exist in Ubuntu, I don't know if I am supposed to create what appears to be a Centos structure to accommodate.

I will check out some Youtube videos, but they are usually created by content creators with their own interpretation of how it should be done and I'd rather have it as the developers intended.

I haven't tried an install via apt install cacti yet, but I'd rather do an install from the latest github release and you don't get that with the apt package.

I have used Cacti since 0.8.8b, normally managed to work around the inconsistencies in instructions, but really struggling this time round, some of it might be Ubuntu taking too much out of the minimal install this time round, I have had to add packages that I am used to being included, I couldn't even do an ifconfig without going off and finding the package that included the net tools.

Thanks for the pointer on going over to look at the Youtube videos, wish me luck.

I've asked a Cacti group Ubuntu expert if he could update the docs for 22.04. It's definitely PHP8.1!
