[SOLVED]Attempted to switch from crontab to cactid

Post by eholz1 »

Hello Members,
I was reviewing my cacti configuration. I am on cactu-1.2.24.
Running spine, cron at every 5 min, and poller at 1 min intervals. Using 20 processes and 12 threads.
Yes, I have 12 CPUs. This ran fine, no warnings, spine at every minute time from 8 to 11 sec. with 400 devices.

I read the info in the README.md file in the "service" directory. This seems to make sense.
I followed the directions, created files, etc. Started the cactid.service, it ran for a while then gives me
an error, "CACTI: Database Connection went away. Attempting to reconnect!" I am running the service as apache:apache. Do I set the poller type to "spine" or "cmd.php" for this to work? I also get an error in the std_err log file, "too may database connections"
Does it make sense to try cactid or go back to cron?
I am open to suggestions,
eholz1

Hello and thanks for the reply.

I did not forget to disable cron.
Imy max_connections is set to 10,000

I have 400 devices being monitored, switches and routers.
current process/threads is set to 24/12 - I have 12 cpu on this virtual machine

Do I keep spine as the poller or use cmd.php?

Thanks for getting back to me. Using cacid seemed like such a good idea.
My current config is running under a 5 min cron, a 1 min poller, and the collector is 24/12.
And no warnings, etc
