Re: How to add new services to be monitored?

It's actually not that complicated. Cacti focuses primarily on Host level metrics, and not Application level metrics. If you stick to the host stuff, you can have a fresh Cacti system monitoring thousands of devices in just minutes.

For the application level stuff, it's going to be more work. The HMIB plugin tracks individual application use and provides dashboards for that, and until today, only Graphed Summary Statistics for application use such as mysql/mariadb.

You question on application tracking is still pretty vague. If all you care about is Memory and CPU use, and the number of application threads/processes running, then HMIB is fine, but if you are looking for detailed statistics about the application as in the case of the number of SQL selects per minute for MariaDB or MySQL, you have to deploy a Device Template for specifically that type of tracking.

So, today, I created a new Data Query that allows you to track three metrics by application by device, but you need to understand key Concepts to navigate you way to create X graphs for Y applications that you wish to monitor. If you pull the latest HMIB you will see it there. I've also attached below for my main server two application metrics that I'm now tracking on my primary development server: mariadb and httpd using the new Data Query package contained in the 'templates' directory.

There is a quite a bit of detail on the former both at the Cacti documentation site, and on YouTube. The later requires that you first understand what HMIB really does, and how to manually create Graphs or use Cacti's Automation to do such things.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
