Graph Legend Help

Post by theiss »

Hello everyone!

I'm hoping that you guys would be able to help me out on little nagging issue.
I have a graph as below:
empty_legend.PNG
empty_legend.PNG (24.54 KiB) Viewed 657 times
I'm graphing SIP errors in the ranges 4xx, 5xx and 6xx.
Positive for errors sent out, negative for errors received.

Originally, I mistakenly entered the text in the "area" instead of the "line1" for the 5xx.
When I corrected the mistake, it is now showing the square color box with no text.

How do I remove that square color box altogether?
I've checked and rechecked, there is no "space" in the text box that could represent a blank legend.
I've recreated the area and the line on all 4 graph item entries, but still unsuccessful.

Any pointers greatly appreciated!

Regards,
~Theiss

Can you post a screenshot of how you defined the graph template ?

Here's the graph template that I used to create the graph:

This might be a RRDtool ISM. I'm just scratching my head as to why the other AREAS are not rendering on the legend as well. Very odd. You might benefit from putting the graph into debug mode and posting the RRDtool graph syntax and stating your RRDtool version.

Hi Witness,

TIA - I'll try to remember to get that graph debug for your tomorrow.

As for your question why the rest of the graph legends are not rendering, I found that if I don't add the description (4xx, 5xx, 6xx), the legends don't show.

That particular errored legend contained 5xx IN (I think), and I deleted/removed the text, and put it on the 5xx OUT, to keep it the same as the others (ie: 4xx label was on 4xx OUT, etc).

Hi Witness,

I think you misunderstood me.

My logic/approach was, if there is no text, it doesn't show the legend.
So, if I remove the text it would also remove the legend entry.
This is not the case.

I mistakenly entered the description text for the "5xx IN".
So, I removed the text and place it in "5xx OUT" field.
but it will not remove the legend entry for the "5xx IN", which is now contains no text.

Cheers

I'm thinking that line 54 in the text file:
AREA:f#FF240099:'\n' \

Is the culprit; but not sure. Also if I was right, how do I remove that newline character manually?

~Trev.

Look to the
items.

Thank you, Witness!

I have a
, Hard Return, on the last area graph.
I removed the
, and inserted a comment after the area graph with a Hard Return.

Fixed the problem!

Thanks again!

Cheers,
