That's kind of a broad question. My rule of thumb. If you have less than 1000 devices, a classic PC desktop with 6-8 cores 16-32GB of RAM is more than enough and SSD only. Spine is super efficient, you just need to tune it.

If you are planning on going enterprise with failover and tens of thousands of devices, it starts getting expensive. 3-6 servers, fault tolerant database, and clustered storage I prefer GlusterFS, though there are caveots.
