Cacti Spontaneously Generating Unwanted Graphs

Post by DeathAndTaxes »

version 1.2.19, fresh install on ubuntu 22.04.1 lts

I've used cacti for simple monitoring of routers/switches for almost 2 decades now. I'm not a cacti expert, but I know how to get things done in it (usually).

I have a fresh cacti install and I added a few devices. I've manually built graphs for interfaces, 64-bit counters, and these are working fine. However, every couple of days, I find new graphs for 64-bit with total bandwidth and/or 64-bit with 95th percentile added for some devices/interfaces. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which interfaces get these new graphs.

I can manually delete the graphs, and confirm they are gone, only for new graphs to appear within a few days.

Can anyone point me in a direction of what's going on here?

Check under the Automation section, as there are rules in there to auto create graphs (albeit they shouldn't be doing any of the total or 95th graphs)

Ok, thanks @cigamit. I did find some automation rules under graphs having to do with 64-bit with total bandwidth. It's possible my 95th percentile graphs were vestigial from an earlier configuration as those haven't popped up in a while.

I've deleted these graph automation settings, removed some new graphs that appeared today, and will check up in a few days to see if this resolves this issue.

I don't know where the graph automation settings came from, but possibly when I imported some template? For some reason, my install came with no templates and I had to import them manually. (Separate issue and I have moved on with my life, so not looking to troubleshoot the initial missing templates, haha.)

It's been about a week and a half and I haven't had any unexpected graphs popping up. Thanks again!
