Can't edit or delete device

We have a device that cannot be edited or deleted. If I try deleting it remains and if I try editing any of the device details it saves as a new device rather than accepting edits. Version 1.1.19

Update to 1.2.21, also check your device table for errors.

How do I check the device for table errors and can we go directly from version 1.1.19 to 1.2.21 or are the intermediary steps?
