Guest Wifi Monitor

Post by jfreak53 »

I'm trying to see if Cacti supports being a guest network monitor, to monitor devices on our guest network and report on monthly usage. I've tried Automated Device scan, it doesn't really do it since it doesn't track mac addresses, so different device fingerprints. I tried Mactrack, but I can't get it to work.

Basically I need to very simply track devices on our guest network, and report that number devices every month. Can Cacti do this? If so, can someone point me in the right direction as I'm not finding a way to do this?

Thanks!!

Getting MacTrack to work is the way to go. You might need to create a custom mac address scanning function. What is the hardware platform?

So mactrack seems to work:

It even grabs my guest network so that's nice. Few issues and digging around Google I'm not finding any solutions. Graphs don't work:

And I can't find a way, I'm thinking manual email report, to send a report of monthly connected devices total over email. I've googled a bunch and not finding anything on that.

Thanks!

MacTrack can be enhanced to do a lot more. I hope that someone makes the time to do that. I use the MikroTik plugin as those are the devices I have on my home network. It's pretty cool and does a lot more.

Does the mikrotik plugin do what I need? I have all Mikrotik devices as well.

Yea, pretty sure it does. I'll be doing an update to the plugin over the summer to. I'll likely have that update coincide with the release of Cacti 1.2.22 where we hope to release a packaging plugin for Cacti developers to use. My lab is down right now, otherwise, I would share some images.

Okay, I turned on my lab... Not sure about adding the SSID to the Wireless Registrations. Maybe it's there but simply not displayed.

Thanks for that!! Is there a way with that plugin to report/graph the number of X distinct users on Y subnet per month?

Yea, it could do that. Might need to be an enhancement.

Where could I find documentation on creating enhancements? Not a problem to do, just need some more docs on it to start me off :)

I installed it, so far looks like it's tracking what I need, just need that final way to report. Thanks for the help!!

I've got Graphs:
https://cdn.microtronix-tech.com/imgs/S ... -35-03.jpg

Is there a way without customizing to view total "count" for the month?

No, you would have to do a pull request after creating that feature.
