System SNMP Error

Post by eliassal »

I am trying to use SNMP V3 instead of V2. Issuing the following command from cacti box, I get an ouput
snmpget -v3 -l authNoPriv -u salam -a SHA -A "mypassword" 192.168.10.1 sysName.0
SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: DrayTek
but when I configure cacti to use SNMPv3, in the log I get
2022-02-26 10:10:57 - CMDPHP PHP ERROR WARNING Backtrace: (/host.php[139]:api_device_ping_device(), /lib/api_device.php[1119]:cacti_snmp_session_get(), /lib/snmp.php[492]:SNMP->get(), CactiErrorHandler())

and in the device panel I get

You may be trying to use the newer SNMP v3 with DH settings, not sure as I haven't used v3 much yet. There are some changes coming with the next patch release for v3 but I don't think they include DH yet. It is something one of our own testers flagged so work may yet be done on it.

DH hasn't been implemented yet. One of our guys has a need for it at his work so it may be something worked on in the next few months.

SNMP v3 without DH should work, though I believe there are some upcoming changes to make it work better.

Do an snmpget on the failed OIDs to see if the device is returning what you expect, that is the first step I'd take.

FWIW, I do use SNMPv3 private and authenticated, it has fully successful returns on internal networks, less so on external links, particularly those with high latency.

Doing

Code: Select all

snmpget -v 2c -c sierac salam7 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.11.0
or

Code: Select all

snmpget -v 2c -c sierac salam7 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.11.0
returns
UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuIdle.0 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID
doing

Code: Select all

snmpwalk -Cc -On -v 2c -c sierac salam7 1.3.6.1.4.1
I get a lot of values.

But tell me, why I am getting those errors now and graphs are not getting updated whereas for almost 2 months it was working fine and graphs were shaoing great details. Nothing changed on my machine or router nor on the cacti fedora box

Check whether your device has had a firmware update? If so, ensure that SNMP is definitely still enabled because it sounds like one of two problems and it's not cacti's fault I suspect...

1. Your firmware is no longer supporting the return of the data you are requested.
or
2. Your firmware is now returning that data as part of a different set of OID's and therefore your template no longer works with it.

Firmware cant be updated as it is an old GigaByte motherboard, no firmware updates since 2017 so it is not really a firmware issue

Then check whatever SNMP settings you can to ensure that you have the correct community/port/ip combination because it's not returning the data you're expecting. Either that or there's a firewall somewhere between the cacti process and the end point.

Dear netniV, SNMP V2 settings are all correct, otherwise snmpget or snpwalk won't work as well as in Cacti device manager. as you can notice in the snapshot all firewalls are disabled on the cacti box as well as on the win10 machine

All counters were working fine and graphs were updated correctly, nothing has changed not on the cacti box, nor on the win10 machine, still getting the following for basic counters
