Cacti Upgrade from 0.8.8b --> .8.8f --> 1.1.38

Post by skywalker89 »

General Information
Date Wed, 12 May 2021 15:12:52 -0700
Cacti Version 1.1.38
Cacti OS unix
NET-SNMP Version NET-SNMP version: 5.7.3
RRDtool Version RRDtool 1.7.x
Devices 160
Graphs 6067
Data Sources SNMP Get: 118
SNMP Query: 6036
Script Query - Script Server: 10
Total: 6164

We were on Ubuntu LTS 14.04 and I upgraded it to 16.04 which also upgraded Cacti to .8.8f. Cacti came up but wouldn't work because of a known issue with RRDtool 1.5.5 and Ubuntu 16.04. I updated the 16.04 to 18.04 to get Cacti upgraded which seemed to work. I have no issues with the RRDtool now. However, the logs report Poller[1] ERROR: The path: is invalid. Can not continue.

I am very new to Cacti and inherited this the way it is.

Is there any place I should check to see what needs to be fixed? Any help would be appreciated!

I know most sites is see Cacti is installed under /var/www

Go in settings and check the paths to your binaries. Most likely something else got moved around.

Thank you! You pointed me in the right direction. I did not have anything set under Alternate Poller Path. I set that to spine and found more issues. I had to upgrade Spine to the latest version, then found I can't be on the latest version with 1.1.38. So spine and cacti are now working and displaying graphs again. If I rebuild the cache, I do get a bunch of PHP errors which seem to be related to 1.1.x.

Is there a simple path to going to 1.2 and is there a version that is preferred and more stable? The only way I've been doing Cacti upgrades is from upgrading Ubuntu between major versions. I'm on 18.04 and could go to 20.04, I just really don't want to deal with more errors/upgrade issues after spending the day yesterday fighting this lol

If you want an easy life with updating Cacti, as you are on a debian-based system, look for Paul Gever's PPA.
