device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Dear Cacti community,
I faced with issue in my environment when I add a new device, create a list of graphs for it the status is "Unknown". Device itself is reachable, cacti gets snmp info and ping response back.
Downed Device Detection method - "Ping and SNMP uptime".
I have added 285 devices manually without any issues, but above this amount all new ones become "Unknown".
I checked all possible cases with similar issue, but no one matched my case.
Has anyone faced with similar issue? Any idea how to solve it? Seems like a performance issue and amount of more than 285 devices gets cacti stop working properly.
My setup info:
Cacti Version 1.2.15
Cacti OS unix

Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Your poller is taking a long time to complete. Can you display your stats line from the log?
I would increase your procs/threads under Data Collectors.

Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Looks like you're right. I checked Data Collector settings for my main poller and increased process to 8 (was 1) and Threads to 8 (was 1).
I'm going to add 200+ devices there and will see how it helps.

Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Typically I do 1 Process per vCPU (some people do 2), and then ~12 threads. I then tune the threads up or down based upon the load on my Cacti server.

Thanks for advice!
My issue was resolved with this tune, much appreciated for your help!

Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Hi. I have also issues on the unknown devices. May I know where can I see the Process? As I checked, threads was 1 and I switched to 6. But still in unknown state. Kindly help. TY.
Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
What is your cacti version ? Is it a new installation? My issue was with amount of running devices, cacti itself was working well.
Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
Hi. Cacti Version 1.2.15. Same scenario on the original post except for add new device. ICMP and ping are working fine but the devices is unknown. Realtime graph is working.
Re: device status "Unknown" for all new devices
I mean SNMP is good and ping. But still unknown device.
