Importing templates to cacti

Post by Nadou21 »

Hi,

While I was reading the cacti doc about importing new templates which is described in this link, https://docs.cacti.net/template they said that during this process, user Contributed Templates may attempt to alter existing Cacti Templates, I'm currently working on production system so I want to know how do you manage this issue during the import without modifying other templates.

I'm actually new to cacti so I'd be grateful if I get some peace of advice :D .

cacti version: 1.2.16
Spine: 1.2.16

Thanks.

There is an option for that during import.
Preview Import Only
If checked, Cacti will not import the template, but rather compare the imported Template to the existing Template data. If you are acceptable of the change, you can them import.
It will tell you if its going to override anything.

Thank you for the reply, I want to know if it is the case and it says that it'll override something, is there a way to avoid that?

Thank you!

Nope, unless it the RRA profiles, as you can select that during import. Depending on what you import, refusing to change some things could completely break the new template. So you have a choice. Do the Preview, and see what is changing. Or import and override.
