I want to monitor my internet connection stability, I want to do a continuous ping to for example 8.8.8.8 and monitor the stability of my internet connection. How can I set this up in Cacti?
I found the mechanism to monitor ping latency, but not really how to measure/graph the uptime. Any suggestions?
I'm a newbie in Cacti by the way, still learning by doing.

Re: Internet Uptime - how to setup in Cacti
Create a host Google as 8.8.8.8 for the hostname, make it without any device template
than add the graph Unix - Ping Latency
and finaly do the graph
and voila

Ok, thanks. Ping Latency is the trick to solve this. Thanks. I found this option indeed.
I was wondering if there was also an Up/Down type tests.

Ping latency is working fine for some time.
Re: Internet Uptime - how to setup in Cacti
Up/Down is based on interface status, so it will only give you information if your link is interuupted with your provider, or to your CPE, not after that.

In the latest Net-SNMP Device Template there is an Uptime Graph Template. You should use that. I would say in the server world (screwing windows cause they screwed themselves), the Net-SNMP template, should cover almost 100% of the space.
