Local Host network interface

Post by joaoe33 »

Hello dear Cacti community.

I am fairly new to cacti but I am enjoying the ride so far what the knowledge I have acquired so far.

I managed to set up a server which is gathering data from a few machines. My main goal is to analyze the network interfaces and their traffic and I have succeeded in do so in the outer machines.

However, I noticed I forgot to monitor the server machine/local host and after running the same snmpd configurations I get the following error, which I seem to be unable to correct.

Error: System SNMP error - SNMP::get(): No response from udp6:[::1]

I added upd6:[::1]:161 to the config file but nothing happened.

What am I doing wrong?

Try to use ipv4 - 127.0.0.1:161

I also have udp:161 in the config file, this should be IPV4.

Ok, if your snmpd is listening on localhost:161,you have to add new device in cacti only. Host will be 127.0.0.1, insert correct community, select device template it is all.

I see.

I changed the snmpd file to listen to the local host IP (127.0.0.1) instead of the IP used to connect to other machines.

It is now working. Thank you for your feedback.
