v1.2.15 Cacti.log not writable after install

Post by DMBanke »

Working on the v1.2.15 install I clicked next on the MYSQL update page. Now all of a sudden I have the message that the System log file: cacti.log is not available for writing. The file has -rw-rw-rw- permissions on. Any idea as to why I have this message? The log file is being written to successfully for the Spine process messages.

As per the Warning on the MYSQL page, I cleared all cache in my browser and started a new completed browser session.

Check path, log could be in another path like /var/log/cacti/, /usr/share/cacti/log, /usr/local/share/cacti/log. It depends on OS and version.

Check log directory permission too.
ls -ald /var/log/cacti (or your real log path)
drwx --- --- no_www_user:no_www_group log - it causes that www server cannot write to log directory
On freeBSD I have
drwx rwx rx cacti:www log
Let the Cacti grow!

The error message points to the /var/www/html/cacti/log/cacti.log.

cacti.log has permssions of -rw-rw-rw-
log directory has drwxrwxrwx

Just changed the cacti.log to -rwxrw-rw- and got past the error message. Why it needs Executable is beyond me.

Also had to add executable to the resources, scripts and cache directories to get through the install pre-check.

v1.2.15 is now up and running!

We added that 'feature' as basic insta-shock therapy for people who mess up permissions when they upgrade, and it's working ;)

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
