Can not monitor dell powerconnect switch interfaces with snmp V3

Post by alialp »

Hi,
Dell powerconnect switch interfaces can be monitored using snmp v2 configuration.
However, it is not possible to monitor the interfaces with snmp V3.
snmpwalk gives the results without any error.
snmpwalk -v3 -l authnoPriv -u cacti -a MD5 -A "kikacacti" 10.17.20.53
Also, cacti gives devices info correctly.

Kika-Winder-v3 (10.17.20.53)
SNMP Information
System: 24G Ethernet Switch

This Data Query returned 0 rows, perhaps there was a problem executing this Data Query. You can run this Data Query in debug mode From there you can get more information.

Use snmpv2. It's way easier for beginners. Also, if you are worried about security, use an acl on the Dell side to allow only cacti IP.

Thanks for your recommendations.
But, I got interface statistics using snmpwalk in linux cli. (snmp v3)
Unfortunately, cacti is just giving device info(hostname, uptime etc.) but not interfaces statistics. And no error is displayed.

That's due to an ACL on the router/switch. They are likely using net-snmp, and the default config does not get you access to much. If you do a full walk from the command line and interface metrics come back using the same information as in Cacti, then you should ensure that php-snmp is uninstalled.
