Cacti 1.2.11 and Weathermap 098a

Post by pbenner »

Good Afternoon,

I have pawed my way through the weathermap install and created a map with nodes and links. I can't seem to get the links to show any traffic, nor the graphs that hover to work. The graphs exists and are collecting data, but there is something I must have done wrong with weathermaps Any suggestions would be appreciated. Being upfront, I'm a noob on this stuff. Thanks in advance!

What does it say in cacti.log for WEATHERMAP? If you aren't getting data, there will usually be an error message to give you a clue. The config looks generally OK, as long as those rrd files actually exist.

There is a thread here already somewhere for issues with phalek's version and hover graphs. Here is is: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=60832
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. I can't see any errors in the logs other than a few devices on the poller. (I don't think they are related.)

OK, none of that is anything to do with Weathermap (log lines from wm start with WEATHERMAP not POLLER).

(there wasn't an attachment on the post though)

The kind of thing I was expect you'd see would be like this (with WEATHERMAP and probably ReadData in the line):

Code: Select all

06/13/2019 03:52:28 PM - WEATHERMAP: Poller [0] WARNING: [Map 87] ICON.conf: ReadData: LINK node06737-node00622, target: /usr/cacti-0.8.8h/rra/jatim- waru-r7606-npe-01_traffic_in_180.rrd on config line 1540 of /usr/cacti-0.8.8h/plugins/weathermap/configs/ICON.conf had no valid data, according to WeatherMapDataSource_rrd
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).

Hmm. That all looks normal. I only just noticed you have

Code: Select all

SET rrd_use_poller_output 1
though, so weathermap won't actually be reading any rrd files.

If you are able to, I would try turning on DEBUG logging in Cacti for one poller cycle. You will get a LOT more information, and maybe shed some light on what is missing. With rrd_use_poller_output/Boost, the filename you use has to match with what Cacti thinks is the path for its rrd files. You should get errors in the logs for that mismatch too, though. grep for ReadData lines in the DEBUG logs though, and you should see more of what is going on. Also, check if there are any rows in the weathermap_data table in the database (and that you have a weathermap_data table!)

Make sure to turn DEBUG off again if you do turn it on, as it generates a lot of data!
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.

That certainly changed things up. The map still has no data and logs show that the file does not exist. although it does.....

So it looks like you took out the rrd_use_poller_output?

Code: Select all

2020/06/16 12:53:14 - WEATHERMAP DEBUG: [wmrrd_read_from_real_rrdtool@WeatherMapDataSource_rrd.php:491] [Map 4] Data_Centre.conf: RRD ReadDataFromRealRRD: Returning (NULL,NULL,0)
This is now reading from the RRD file directly. BUT if you still have Boost (I don't recall what Cacti 1.x calls it - poller performance?) turned on, your rrd files aren't updated very often - that's why you need the setting in the first place! That's why you are seeing lots of this:

Code: Select all

This is where the poller hasn't yet updated the rrd file, which it does every 30 minutes or so.

So: try the logging again, but with the rrd_use_poller_output line in place. Also, check in the Tech Support section of Cacti and see if you have a weathermap_data table, and how many rows it has.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

I did take that line out of the config. I am not running Boost unless it is integrated into the code on 1.2.11. Checking the DB tables

There does seem to be rows and data in the table. Forgive my naivety on this!

The debug ran for 30 min with the poller command in the config file. The issue persists.

so it's finding rows in the weathermap_data table, but it thinks they aren't being updated ("too old or too new")

Picking a last_time value from your sql query gives a date that seems fairly sensible:

Code: Select all

▶ date --date='@1592331605'
Tue 16 Jun 19:20:05 BST 2020
Weathermap is expecting an entry from the last 8 minutes, so you'd have to check on the live system if that was true.

Code: Select all
