Cannot associate data query

Post by see »

Hello,

I'm new to Cacti. I'm trying to get SNMP data from an snmp query using an XML file.

After many tries (and fails), I decided to follow an example from Cacti Beginner's guide, where I'm monitoring the in-bytes of every network interface on a CentOS machine.I generated a data query, and then I associated a the "Interface -Treffic (bits/sec)" graph template to it. Finally, I added the data query to my device.

I verbosed the query for debbuging and everything is OK.

Now, I want to find the rrd file in cacti_rra path in order to retrieve this data and store it in an external DB, however I can't find it (and for sure, the graph is not created).

I search in the forum for a similar problem without succes.

Can you, please, help me?
Thanks for your time.

For the host you associated it with, did you create a graph for it? Until Cacti creates a graph, and then queries the device with that data query and retrieves actual data back, it does not create the rrd file.

I just associated a graph tempalte to the data query, do I also need to add a graph for the host in Management>Devices section? How do I map the data query with the graph?

Hi @see,

Yes, you have to create a graph so Cacti would create the rrd file. You should click on a device, then create a graph and select the data query or graph template you want to create the graph for.

Kind regards,
